Music for people who listen closely.

Uncompromising sound quality over visuals crafted by hand, and functionality inspired by a musician.

The apps

Tune in and trip out. Grab an instrument, create your ideal backing track, and play for fun or practice.

Columns, one of the looks: a colonnade of glass columns filling with light along the waveform, mirrored in a glossy floor

ARIATONE Mix

Describe the music. Then mix it yourself.

AriaTone Mix has fun with generative music by creating high quality stems giving you control over the mix. Let autopilot drive curated tracks or describe the perfect backing track to suit your mood and practice in the key and tempo you want.

Focus
Background music to work to. Every stem’s volume is adjustable.
Jam
Play along in the Jam Room: mute and solo, an EQ, tempo that keeps the key, saved tracks and mixes.
Studio
Mix & master with panning, parametric EQ, lossless FLAC, upload your own tracks to stem.

Skyline, one of the looks: a dark city across still water under a curtain of color, trees of light growing through its towers

ARIATONE Radio

Internet radio, exactly as the station sends it.

A player for internet radio, through AriaTone’s sound engine and visuals. Every stream reaches you untouched, in its best available quality. Your browser connects directly to each station you play, never through our server. Add your own stations.

Presets
The developer’s preferred listening stations, ready to play.
Stream
Any other station you like by its address, through the same visuals, in lossless FLAC, AAC or MP3.
Tweak
A volume, an EQ with listening profiles and Crossfeed, and a Bit-exact lock that bypasses them all.

The visuals

Music brings visuals crafted by hand to life.

Drawn live by your device’s graphics chip, every look listens: the bass swells it, each kick sends light out, the highs make it glint. Their colors follow the mood, of your words in Mix and of the station in Radio, and the collection keeps growing.

What comes first

The priorities so far.

  1. Sound, untouched.

Lossless wherever the source is, and bit-exact wherever it can be: the original samples, exactly, all the way through to your ears. Anything in between steps aside when it isn’t needed, and how the apps sound is judged by critical listening.

  2. Visuals crafted by hand.

Calm, dark and precise: engraved metal, polished stone, glass and light. They move slowly, feel the music rather than plot it, and stay behind the controls instead of fighting them. Many of their designs are inspired by my dad’s artwork.

  3. Tested by ear for a warm sound and music.

Generated music often has a telltale glare in the treble. Ours goes through rigorous listening tests: how it’s made is chosen by ear, in blind side-by-side comparisons, and the tracks we curate for you are checked before they’re offered. What we aim for is a warm, organic, pleasant sound.

  4. A web browser and good headphones.

The web is where the apps live, not a stand-in for them: in your browser, on a phone, a tablet or a computer, they feel as close to native apps as we can make them. Then put your headphones on, because a phone’s or a laptop’s speakers can’t play the deep bass, the stereo width or the detail.

Generated music

The music is generated. The musician is you.

Session Notes: how AriaTone gets made.

An honest and occasionally ridiculous account of building AriaTone, written most days by Claude, the AI that writes its code, about working with the engineer, musician and audiophile behind it: the ideas, the decisions, and what broke along the way.
